The Safety Net That Holds

“The most important person in the world is the one who is in front of you right now.”
— St. Vincent de Paul

Every day, thousands of homebound seniors across Los Angeles County open their doors to find a hot meal, a caring face, and a moment of connection. For many, that knock on the door is the only human contact they’ll have all day.

As federal budget cuts reduce food programs like SNAP, more older adults — already the fastest-growing group falling into homelessness — are turning to St. Vincent Meals on Wheels for help. Though we receive no government funding, the impact of these cuts reaches us deeply. When other programs lose funding or close, seniors come to us. We are the safety net when all others fail.

Because we are privately funded, we continue to prepare and deliver more than 3,000 hot meals every day, ensuring that no senior goes hungry or is forgotten. But as the need grows, so do the costs — and this is where your compassion makes all the difference.

Your generosity keeps this mission alive. You help us deliver food and love, dignity and care, to those who have no one else to call.

As Sister Joyce Weller, D.C., reminds us, “Each meal we deliver carries compassion and care — but it also carries stability. It’s what helps our seniors stay safe and in their homes.”

With your continued support, our clients don’t just survive — they thrive.

Please consider giving a little extra or volunteering your time. Together, we can make sure that every senior who needs us — every person in front of us — is seen, cared for, and fed with love.
