Preparing for Today, Caring for Tomorrow

“…so you should be prepared, for the hour has come for you to wake from sleep.”
— Romans 13:11

Last week, before most of the city was awake, our kitchen was already warm with purpose. Nearly 3,000 traditional Thanksgiving suppers — turkey, potatoes, all the fixings — went out to seniors who might have otherwise spent the day unnoticed. A small celebration, yes. But for someone alone, it can mean everything.

As we move deeper into the holiday season, that work continues.

A meal.
A visit.
A reminder that no one is forgotten.

So much of what we do happens in daily moments. The strength of this mission — the ability to keep showing up, especially when federal programs are cut and need rises — is shaped by choices made long before the meal reaches the door.

Quiet decisions.
Steady intentions.

Acts of care prepared now so that someone vulnerable is protected later.

Planned giving lives in that same quiet space.

Some friends include SVMOW in their will or trust.
Some set up gifts that provide income during their lifetime.

Others give through life insurance or real estate, creating a legacy that ensures future seniors can celebrate holidays, big or small, with dignity.

Each gesture carries the same truth: the care we extend today helps tomorrow’s seniors feel seen, nourished, and remembered.

During this season of giving and joy, we remain deeply grateful for everyone who helps us deliver food and love… today, and in all the days still to come — ensuring our seniors continue to thrive.
