Lifting Those Who Have Been Thrown Down

“…sets upright those who have been thrown down.” — Psalms 145:14

At St. Vincent Meals on Wheels, we embody this message as we serve our homebound seniors, many of whom rely on our meal runners and drivers as their only visitors throughout the week. With monthly fixed incomes often hovering around $1,200, our seniors face the dual challenges of rising living costs and health issues, making it difficult to remain healthy and independent at home.

Our clients once led vibrant, productive lives, contributing to their communities and raising families. Now, they find themselves in need of assistance with basic necessities such as a hot, nutritious meal and meaningful social connection to combat loneliness. Our dedicated staff and volunteers extend their hands and hearts, offering food and love to lift those who have been thrown down by age, illness, or isolation.

Every day, our dedicated meal runners deliver not just hot meals and shelf-stable breakfast items—the “most important meal of the day”—but also warm smiles and wellness checks to our homebound and vulnerable seniors. These interactions serve as a vital reminder for all of us: as we age, we may one day find ourselves in need of the compassion and support that our meal delivery teams provide. It is essential to recognize our shared humanity and the importance of caring for one another, especially as we grow older and more vulnerable.

Thanks to generous donors like you, we can fulfill our promise to care for the whole person and go #BeyondtheMeal for those who may feel forgotten. Because of your support, St. Vincent Meals on Wheels empowers the seniors we serve to thrive today and into the future.
