Kids in the Kitchen

The Open Hearts Community Service Club and Create the Change Organization from Open Magnet Charter School Elementary in Westchester recently paid a visit to St. Vincent Meals on Wheels, spreading joy and making a positive impact!

Operations Specialist and Tour Guide Extraordinaire, Dan Franco, led the students and their parents on an engaging tour of the kitchen at SVMOW. The highlight of the visit was a special screening of “A Day in the Life of a Meal” video, followed by Sonia Sanchez sharing inspiring stories and indulging the group in a lively Q&A session. The kids and parents alike had a wonderful time.

Filled with gratitude, the parents and kids appreciated the opportunity to learn about the incredible daily work carried out by SVMOW’s dedicated staff and volunteers. It was a valuable experience for all involved, leaving everyone with a sense of fulfillment and purpose.

The group also brought over 100 beautiful, hand decorated “cheer bags” brimming with hygiene items and heartfelt handwritten notes for our homebound seniors, spreading joy and warmth.

Experiences like these, where young volunteers engage with and support organizations like SVMOW, are a cornerstone of our program’s success. Their enthusiasm and generosity truly make us thrive!
