Happy Groundhog Dog
Today is Groundhog Day — a small tradition that always brings to mind the film many of us know so well.
In Groundhog Day, Bill Murray’s character wakes up to the same day over and over again. At first, it feels meaningless. But slowly, the repetition becomes something else. He begins to notice people. To listen. To care. And what once felt like a rut becomes a chance to serve.
In many ways, that is a reminder for all of us.
At St. Vincent Meals on Wheels, the work is steady and daily. Meals are prepared. Routes are driven. Doors are knocked on. Seniors are seen and heard. The day may look similar on the surface — but what happens within it matters deeply.
Because for the homebound seniors we serve, each delivery is not “the same.” It is safety. It is food and love. It is the comfort of knowing someone will come.
This Groundhog Day, may we be reminded that the everyday can be sacred. That compassion is built day after day. And that love is made real by showing up — again and again — for the person in front of us.
