Happy Cat Month

“It shared his food and drank from his cup; it slept in his arms and was like a daughter to him.” 2 Samuel 12:3

September is Happy Cat Month — a time to celebrate the joy, comfort, and companionship that our furry friends bring into our lives. At St. Vincent Meals on Wheels, we understand how important pets are to the homebound seniors we serve. That’s why we created our Bone Appetit program, which delivers healthy pet food each month to make sure our clients’ beloved cats and dogs never go hungry.

For many seniors, pets are more than just companions — they are lifelines. Studies show that pets help older adults overcome loneliness and depression by providing love, affection, and a sense of purpose.

Irene N. recently shared:

“After spending a year recovering from a broken hip, I realized I was becoming withdrawn and depressed. Deciding to foster a dog is giving me a reason to go outside again and helps me feel less lonely — and learning that you can assist me with the pet food is very reassuring that I have made the right decision.”

Stories like this remind us how essential your support is. Isolation can lead to poor health outcomes, but with programs like Bone Appetit, St. Vincent Meals on Wheels can go #BeyondTheMeal — nourishing both seniors and their furry companions. And we’re not stopping there: with your help, we plan to expand Bone Appetit to include Mobile Grooming and Mobile Veterinary services in the future, offering even more care for seniors and the pets they love.

This Happy Cat Month, please consider a donation to the St. Vincent Meals on Wheels Bone Appetit program. With your support, we will continue providing essential pet food and more — helping seniors and their beloved pets not only live but thrive.
