From Bread to Belonging: Community Partners Fighting Food Insecurity
Last Wednesday, February 4, our kitchen was filled with a rare kind of energy — the kind that comes when generosity, purpose, and community come together.
Actors Patrick Duffy and Linda Purl joined us at St. Vincent Meals on Wheels, alongside more than fifty volunteers from Ralphs and Food 4 Less, to mark the launch of Duffy’s Dough — a new sourdough bread line now debuting in Ralphs stores, created with a simple promise: after covering expenses, 100% of profits are donated to organizations fighting food insecurity, including Meals on Wheels programs.
“It was never just about selling bread,” Duffy and Purl shared. “It was about sharing something meaningful — rooted in tradition, gratitude, and care.”
That spirit was felt throughout the morning as volunteers worked side by side preparing meals and serving with intention. Adding to that momentum, Kroger — through the generosity of Sal Ramirez, a Director of Corporate Affairs at Kroger, and the Ralphs and Food 4 Less teams — presented St. Vincent Meals on Wheels with a $10,000 gift to support our work serving homebound seniors across Los Angeles County.
In uncertain times, moments like this remind us what remains strong: people choosing to show up, to give back, and to turn care into action.
For our donors, this is the impact you help make possible. Your support creates a place where partners want to engage, where generosity multiplies, and where seniors are reminded — day after day — that they are not forgotten.
We begin this week grateful, encouraged, and strengthened by the enduring power of giving together.
