February is National Heart Month

Heart health is often framed around diet and exercise, yet for many seniors, maintaining those basics is not so simple.

At St. Vincent Meals on Wheels, we see how closely nutrition and well-being are connected. Many of the seniors we serve live with conditions such as heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes, where a properly balanced meal becomes an essential part of daily care.

Each client starts with a thorough intake to help us understand their specific health needs. Our registered dietitian then collaborates closely with our kitchen and Chef Carlos to design medically tailored meals that meet individual requirements while maintaining comfort, enjoyment, and dignity.

But heart health extends beyond nutrition.

Isolation and loneliness profoundly affect overall well-being. Through daily visits and consistent presence, our staff and volunteer drivers offer something equally vital: human connection. At Hotel Dieu, our low-cost senior housing community, that same spirit of engagement and care continues in a shared environment.

As the needs of seniors grow and resources become increasingly stretched, donor and community support remain vital. Your generosity allows us to continue serving as a trusted safety net — helping seniors remain healthy, nourished, and connected by delivering food and love directly to their homes.

Together, we ensure no senior is forgotten.

Because generosity, too, is a choice. And every contribution strengthens the safety net that allows homebound seniors not simply to endure, but to thrive.

The need continues to grow. So does the opportunity to respond.
