Consistency is a Form of Love

There are people whose lives seem guided by a quiet but unmistakable thread.

For Cecilia Caballero, M.Ed., that thread has always been service.

Before joining St. Vincent Meals on Wheels as Director of Programs, Cecilia served as a university professor, U.S. Marine, educator, author, and executive director of a publishing house that brought books into schools and communities in need.

When asked what has connected those experiences throughout her life, Cecilia’s answer is simple:

“Service is my love language.”

That spirit is part of what drew her to St. Vincent Meals on Wheels.

“I feel a strong pull toward a mission that serves and respects our elders who have contributed a lifetime to later generations,” Cecilia says. “It is our turn to take care of them.”

As she learned more about the organization, she found herself deeply moved not only by the meals themselves but by the care behind them.

“It is more than feeding someone,” she explains. “It’s about connecting with each client, making eye contact, and sharing a smile. That stays with me.”

As SVMOW approaches its 50th anniversary of preparing and delivering food and love across Los Angeles County, Cecilia views carrying that mission forward as both an honor and a responsibility.

And already, she says, the people sustaining this work have taught her something profound:

“Consistency is a form of love.”

It’s a lesson visible every day — in the familiar knock on the door, a warm meal delivered with dignity, and the relationships built over time between seniors, staff, volunteers, and supporters.

“When seniors feel seen and remembered,” Cecilia says, “that’s when programs are truly successful.”

At St. Vincent Meals on Wheels, we are grateful to welcome Cecilia into this next chapter of service and leadership — and grateful to all of you whose support helps make these moments of connection, dignity, and care possible every day.

Together, we continue to prepare and deliver food and love — helping our seniors, our community, and one another thrive.
