Building Community Rooted in Compassion

“…and thus were the paths of those on earth made straight.” Wisdom 9:13-18

The journey of service is often winding and unclear, but it is through our faith and dedication that we find the way. At St. Vincent Meals on Wheels, we embrace this path as we serve our homebound clients with food and love.

Founded by the Daughters of Charity nearly fifty years ago, our dedication to supporting the often isolated and vulnerable members of our community has continued to flourish. In the beginning, our efforts were modest, with a few pots of stew carefully prepared in the basement kitchen of Precious Blood Church. The goal was simple but meaningful: to help our neighbors most in need. Over time, our reach has expanded, but our mission remains rooted in compassion and a desire to make a difference.

The paths we travel—whether as volunteers or staff—are not always straightforward. Many obstacles can appear, and loving others can be difficult in a world filled with division and hardship. Still, it is in these moments that we are called to become agents of hope—uniting, healing, and transforming our surroundings.

We believe that every individual has inherent dignity, a truth that forms the foundation of a caring society. This belief motivates us to focus on people rather than things and to judge our success not by material possessions but by the positive impact we make on the lives of those we serve. Each meal delivered demonstrates our understanding that every person is valuable and deserving of love. As we reach out to those often pushed to the margins, we affirm their worth and extend our hand to them.

None of this would be possible without the generous support of our donors, who walk shoulder to shoulder with us as we serve the community. Their belief in our mission fuels our efforts and strengthens our resolve to make an impact in the lives of those we serve.

At St. Vincent Meals on Wheels, we walk the path together. Although the journey may sometimes be unclear, our faith in the significance of our mission guides us. As we continue to serve our homebound clients across Los Angeles County, we remain committed to ensuring that no one feels alone, isolated, or forgotten. Together, we are building a community rooted in compassion, where every individual is seen, can thrive, be heard, and feel valued.
