Angelini Osteria Staffers Visit SVMOW

Earlier this month, a group from perennial SVMOW supporter, Angelini Osteria, paid a visit to the SVMOW Kitchen. The trendy, popular Italian eatery, with locations in Beverly Grove and the Palisades, has participated in fundraisers for the organization, including the chef-driven “An Evening on the Beach” at the Jonathan Club in Santa Monica, and the annual month-long February campaign, Food is Love. On this occasion, the restaurant representatives peeked behind the stoves at the 16,000-square-foot facility to get a sense of the operation that produces and delivers more than 2,000 meals a day to hungry seniors. After meeting some of the Kitchen staff and volunteers, the group also visited the nearby “Vincentian Village” of tiny homes on Third Street where some of L.A.’s unhoused individuals find housing and are served meals.

The Angelini team stopped by Casa Milagrosa, the drop-in day center run by DePaul USA in partnership with the Daughters of Charity. Close by SVMOW and the Vincentian Village, Casa Milagrosa is already bursting at the seams, offering our homeless neighbors a hot breakfast and coffee, a to-go brown bag lunch, and computers for job searches and help with preparation of needed documents such as social security cards. Just over one year since its launch on Alvarado Street, Casa Milagrosa has grown from a handful of visitors in April 2022 to serving over 100 guests a day.

“We were incredibly impressed with St. Vincent Meals on Wheels’ operation and admire the team’s heartfelt devotion to its mission. Learning more about the services the organization offers and speaking to staff was an enlightening experience. We left feeling inspired by the Daughters of Charity’s efforts to uplift the community, and we look forward to continuing to support their selfless work,” reflected Elizabeth Angelini, Angelini Osteria’s co-owner who participated in the tour.
